NYLO Hotel, Las Colinas
This 200 room, 5-story hotel started construction in the summer of 2008 with a 14 month schedule. The design was a tunnel form concrete frame with exposed concrete walls, floors and ceilings as the finished product. This presented unique challenges to the project team in safety and quality aspects of using this system. Through extensive preplanning and periodic update meetings, John led the team in developing innovative ways of dealing with the potential safety risks associated with the construction process. These ideas became a “Best Practices” for the use of tunnel forms to provide guidance to project teams on future NYLO projects as well as any project utilizing the tunnel forem system. An additional challenge presented to the project was a near 4 month suspension of the project due to one of the lenders being forced into bankruptcy. Through constant communication with the Owner and project team, all parties were able to maintain clear expectations of when funding would be renewed and construction could restart. Through this effort, the project team was able to plan the next steps for construction and be fully prepared to restart construction with the resouces and materials required for timely completion of the project. This effort paid off as the team was able to complete the project only 28 days betond the original contract completion date despite the near 4 month suspension.
